KATHMANDU - BHAKTAPUR - CHANGU NARAYAN - DHULIKEL - BALTHALI - KATHMANDU à¥
Day 1 : Travel to KATHMANDU
Departure with flight to Kathmandu. Arrive at the airport, meet with a representative who will welcome you and will escort you to the hotel. Overnight.
Day 2 : KATHMANDU
After breakfast, we will start our visit of Kathmandu. We will begin with Boudhanilkantha, who is at the entrance to the Shivapuri park. This sacred site is very unique and is revered by both Buddhists and Hindus. Every morning, very early, the pilgrims come to watch the monks take care of the statue of Vishnu sleeping on the sacred waters surrounded by a bed of naga. From here we will continue to the female Buddhist monastery of Kopan, where you can attend a ceremony then we will move higher up to the Buddhist oasis on the top of a hill, where there is the male Buddhist monastery from which you will a beautiful view of the Kathmandu Valley and the Bouddhanath Yellow Stupa. Below is a visit to Pashupathinath (the Nepalese Varanasi), on the sacred Bagmathi river. In addition to being known for the fact that there are cremations there, it is the most important center of worship for the God Shiva of the entire Indian subcontinent. From the caves of Pashupati, we will cross the bridge over the river and climb the long staircase leading to a complex temple where there are hundreds of capitals dedicated to the Shiva Lingam, from here, after passing through a beautiful tree-lined park, and leaving the area Templar, you will find yourself on a suspended Tibetan bridge. Across this, we will continue straight on foot in a small road that enters the suburb of Bouddhanath. Bouddhanath is the suburb that has the second largest Stupa in the world, and its circular plaza is the most famous in the country. Here it is a Buddhist center, full of people who have fled from Tibet. We will end the day by visiting Kathmandu's Durbar Square and its surroundings. Overnight.
Day 3 : KATHMANDU
After breakfast we leave for Patan (Lalitpur), the second historical capital of the country. Here, beside the magnificent square, with finely carved and sculpted temples, fountains for the ablutions, and the royal palace, there are other spectacular temples to see. The Golden Temple, the temple of 10,000 Buddhas. At the Golden Temple, passing a small door at the bottom left in the main cloister, you will come to a small square where there is the best known Tibetan bellsmith of the Kathmandu Valley. From Patan we will move on foot to visit various villages in the rice fields, Bungamati and Gokharna. Below in Jaulakhel we will go to see the Tibetan rugs. End of the day we will go walking in Thamel to Kathmandu to experience the chaos, the horns, the shops and the massage centers.
Day 4 : KATHMANDU - BHAKTAPUR
After breakfast we will depart for Bhaktapur: The most beautiful ancient city, with many magnificent carvings, where Bertolucci filmed his movie IL PICCOLO BUDDHA. Bhaktapur, whose most important temples date back to the 14th century, is undoubtedly an open-air museum. The beauty of this city is that it is closed to car traffic during the day and is a UNESCO heritage. Here it is nice to get lost in the streets, throwing away the maps and follow the children who play running behind the air chambers or bathing in the ancient baths for ablutions. The city is divided into neighborhoods, there is that of the cartai (dattatreya) where you can visit the small craft workshops where they make paper and putti of papier-mâché, the district of wood carvers, where there is the most precious window in the country, the Peacock Window, carved in 1400 by Araniko, the greatest architect of Himalayan history. There is the dyer district, where you will see rows of wood with hanging wool and colored fabrics to dry. The potters' quarter, with sand ovens where the artisans model pots and terracottas at the moment. The city is waiting to be discovered, not to mention its marvelous temples, one above all the five-story pagoda of Nyatapola, the highest in the country, which stands in Taumadi Tole next to the Bhairab temple, just behind Durbar Square of the city . Overnight.
Day 5 : BHAKTAPUR- CHANGU NARAYAN – BHAKTAPUR
After breakfast, departure by car to Changu Narayan, a Newari ethnic village, on top of a hill which dominates the whole valley and the homonymous temple which is the oldest of the Kathmandu Valley. This is also a UNESCO heritage. Arrival and tour of the temple where there is the museum that tells the legend of the place, and being made by the people of the village, you will help the economy. From here, after visiting the Changu Narayan Temple, take the downhill stairs on the other side of the hill and walk down the path and then the road through the green rice paddies to Bhaktapur. Here you will appreciate the life of the fields. Ordinary people will invite you to take tea under the patio of their homes. You will arrive in Bhaktapur in an hour and a half walk downhill or flat. In the evening, go to the center of Bhaktapur with a flashlight and follow the narrow streets lit by the candles of the temples, which is a marvelous sight. Overnight.
Kathmandu Valley Extensions
Day 6 : BHAKTAPUR-DHULIKEL
After breakfast, departure for Dhulikhel, a Newari ethnic village that sits on top of a hill, which has a truly beautiful Himalayan view. In Dhulikhel there is a temple dedicated to Shiva with a resident Sadhu, who makes horoscopes, predictions, puja. In short, a strange kind. Next is a visit of Namabouddha. This Buddhist site is very famous, the monastery that was built in a place where Siddharta himself came to meditate. While the Buddha was under a ficus (pipal) to meditate, a hungry tiger appeared and wanted to eat him, but as soon as he approached, he perceived the sacred aura and spared the Buddha, becoming docile. Since then, many people pray here and make offerings. Here you can follow the lessons. Overnight.
Day 7 : DHULIKEL - BALTHALI
After breakfast, the walk begins from Namabouddha to Balthali, which is downhill and crosses all the terraced cultivations that descend from the hill. It's also wonderful because you can have tea in some local’s houses, see some small local school, and see the Nepalese at work, in a place absolutely off the beaten track by tourists. Once you get to the village of Balthali you have to take an uphill walk of no more than a quarter of an hour to get to the top of the hill where there is the vs resort. From here you can see the Himalayas well, you can dine and stay overnight and enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets of the journey.
Day 8 : BALTHALI – KATHMANDU - DELHI
After breakfast departure for Panauti, a Newari village that has a valuable temple complex dedicated to Shiva, which you can visit in no more than two hours. From there we go to Kathmandu. Free time for personal activities or the last shopping. In the evening there will be transfer to the airport.
POKHARA OPTION
Day 6 : BHAKTAPUR- POKHARA
After breakfast departure for Pokhara. Arrival in the early afternoon and checkin the hotel. Free time for rest or first exploratory walk. Overnight.
Day 7 : POKHARA
After breakfast, ride a boat on the Pewa Tal and if you want to trek up to the Friendship Pagoda across the lake from the marina, where you will see a beautiful scenery: the Annapurna and the Macchapucchare that emerge from the hills on the other side of the lake, mirroring on the water. Or visit the small island in the middle of the lake and then come back to see the Falls of Devi. After this is departure to go to Sarangkot, the fort of Pokhara, a hill from which you have a spectacular view over the valley, the 4 Annapurna, the Dhaulagiri, the Macchapucchare. Wait for the sunset, have dinner at the Lodge. Return to Pokhara and overnight.
Day 8 : POKHARA – KATHMANDU - ITALIA
After breakfast return to Kathmandu. Free time for personal activities or the last shopping. In the evening there will be transfer to the airport.
